Using Word 2007 / 2010 with Umbraco

I've recently posted an article on using Windows Live Writer with Umbraco. As I've mentioned in that post, however, WLW is not the only software that can be used to create blog posts in Umbraco. Microsoft Office Word 2007 and 2010 also has this possibility due to their MetaWebLog support.

Configuring Umbraco

To set up Umbraco, follow the same step as in the chapter "Setting up your Umbraco site" in "Using Windows Live Writer with Umbraco".

Configuring Word

Open Word, then go to "File", "Save & Send". Click on the "Publish as Blog Post" button as illustrated below.

Word will then open a new window with a different ribbon bar.

Click on "Manage Accounts".

Then click on "New" in the new window.

You'll get the following dialog:

Select «Other» in the «Blog» dropdown, and click «Next».

Fill in the information like I've done above, but change them according to your site.

Click "OK".

If everything worked, you'll see your blog channel in the list.

Publishing

To publish the post, click on "Publish" or expand the button and click on "Publish as draft".

Log into Umbraco and you'll see the post has appeared in your Content tree.

Creating blog posts has never been easier!
